Let me first caveat this that I'm only a couple of months into casually trying for the first time (i.e. no contraception, vague notion of fertile times, but not measuring temperatures or anything), so I'm nowhere near as far along in the process and don't truly understand the pain and stress you must feel.

That said, you need to live your life. You can work out, particularly if it makes you feel better. Doctors and trainers can give you advice on safe exercises. A friend of mine ran countless marathons and completed several Ironmans while trying to conceive. She loves that sort of thing, but I know wouldn't have done it if it would endanger a pregnancy. She had a difficult time, and I imagine that these competitions and training helped her get through it. Also, go travel, and enjoy your experiences. If you get pregnant ahead of time and have to adapt your plans, deal with it as it comes rather than stress ahead of time. One of the big benefits of not having a child is the relative ease with which you can travel, go out, and do what you want to do. I realize this is easier said than done, but please take care of yourself physically and emotionally.

Like I mentioned, I'm just starting this process, and am frankly terrified of everything. What if I get pregnant right away, am I really ready for a kid in the next year? What if I don't? What if I can't? What if I do and something goes wrong? What if all these questions and fears drive me insane?

There are things you can do to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Running marathons or other extreme forms of exercising will most likely keep you from ovulating. It's a bit like trying to conceive while using condoms every time you have sex. Yes, it could happen, but you're actively working against pregnancy.

If you're having a little trouble getting pregnant, maintaining consistent blood sugar levels for some reason can help and I never see this fact in fertility forums. You can google a diet for gestational diabetes and that diet will help maintain consistent blood sugar levels.

Best wishes everyone who is trying to conceive.

I finally saw doctor today. Yes a year too late. I wish I pushed thru earlier, I wish I took action earlier. Its been on my list, its been on my mind and I already had the prescription but every month I kept saying "just one more month, maybe this is it". But it didn't happen. Then I took my test and took another 2 months to convince my husband to take the test. It is unfair for me to say he wasn't complying. He was just passive but he never resisted. If I made the appointment, he would have showed up. I needed time.

What pushed me was finding out a friend was having her 2nd baby thru IVF. I knew she had some medical issue that was going to make pregnancy hard for her, this was found out when we were in college and not thinking about kids. But for her to seek help and have not one but 2 kids already while I am sitting on my ***** debating if I should have my day 3 blood work and semen analysis done yet.

The results as expected: I am showing sign of PCOS (high insulin, high male hormone & lower # of eggs left in my system considering my age) & husband has low morphology (abnormal sperm shape). Now we have to see real fertility specialist

I always wondered if I had PCOS because I have always been overweight my entire life + hair loss and excess body hair but I never had issue with my period. So never was diagnosed. It makes sense why I am always tired, why I prefer to munch instead of having big meal. I gained 13lbs since my last pregnancy, I know I have to lose weight.

I have PCOS too and a clotting disorder and thyroid disease. I lost several babies in the first trimester.

My repro endocrinologist put me on CoQ-10 to improve egg quality, along with prenatals and extra folic acid. I take metformin also because of the PCOS. It helps you lose weight in my experience, which is a nice side effect for once. If they put you on metformin, ask for the Extended Release pills. The regular kind can make you sick to your stomach. It’s important to take this med with food.

My husband was never tested since they found enough wrong with me, I guess.

The Dr. really pushed IVF (her bread and butter) but we conceived naturally again and are expecting in January.

Best of luck to you for a positive outcome, I know how hard it is to go through all the doubts and questions and hopes every month.

Thank you for sharing your story. I am so happy to hear you are expecting in January. Pray all goes well. Although I have suspected I have PCOS for few years due to excess hair facial hair, hair loss and over weight... it still felt like my world has been upside down after I got officially diagnosed. I still have not made appointment with the specialist yet. Coping with the news, mad at myself for letting my weight go up & wondering what ifs of past and future.

I have friends with PCOS who conceived easily, so I know it is possible. I am worried about conceiving, I am worried about sustaining a pregnancy and I am worried about having a healthy baby in the end. But one step at a time

Please just go ahead and make the appointment so you won't kick yourself about waiting anymore. It's best to get some treatment and it will help you feel better about some of those questions. Everything I did at the Reproductive Endocrinologist's was covered by my insurance (IVF etc are not).

Yes, CoQ10 may support fertility, and has also been researched on those with PCOS. One thing to note is that a form that is water and fat-soluble absorbs better.
As another mentioned, yes, it would be better to review all your options with your doctor or a new RE.

Good morning ladies,

I turned 30 this July & was TTC for 4 months/4 cycles this year before I got pregnant. I used the AVA bracelet, it's like a fertility fitbit...I would say that it helped me, I purchased it in January & got pregnant sometime in late April. My cycles/O days are fairly predictable though, and it's not tested on women w/ PCOS...I'm currently 7 months/28 weeks w/ a baby boy due mid-January...

If anyone has any questions, I'm not trying to hawk or gimmick anyone to buy it but I'd say it's a good aid in addition to OPKs, etc. feel free to PM me.

Good luck to everyone who is still in their TTC journey

I have my first appointment with fertility specialist this afternoon. Not sure what to expect. I am hoping she will give us a pill to take (balance hormone) and send us off our way saying we don't need much work. I don't know if I can handle all the poking and probing that comes with fertility aid methods. I have hard time getting prep smear.

I am trying to lose weight and I know that will make big difference but it is a slow process. I also started acupuncture last week. It was very interesting, not scary as I expected but not as relaxing as others have made it out to be. I would have preferred a good massage. But I did notice difference in me the day after acupuncture. Two points I felt some discomfort when needle went in were my lower back & abs area. Surely enough the next day, I felt some pain in my lower back & naturally had a desire to sit up straight/walk straight. My posture became better and it hurts not when I slouch. My back had that really good workout pain even thought I did nothing. I love that my posture is finally better. I will continue after I speak to the doctor but so far I love it, even thought it is expensive.

I am a very slow person. Almost 4 months later update because that is how long it took me to take the next step. I take a step & then have to breath/cope with the finding for 4 months before I get courage to take the next step. It shouldn't be this hard but I am moving at my pace, even if it is slow.

The fertility specialist was very nice, spent 2 hrs doing basic workup and history talk. They wanted me to redo day 3 blood work with more testing & do a sonohystograph. I did the blood work with in a week and then was too scared to schedule SHG which is worst than prep smear. Instead I turned to god, became more religious, life style change and in February started acupuncture on regular base. I do see a huge difference in my period on the months I do acupuncture, the flow is nicer and stronger vs. when I skip it. After 4 months of dragging my feet, I finally went ahead with SHG testing yesterday and they found what looks like a polyps in my uterus. For which I need hysteroscopy, a little camera that goes inside to inspect what this mass is and cuts it up. I am scared but I hope I don't end up waiting another 3 months before taking that step. My mother is on my case now and calls me on regular base to get me to make appointment. So moving slowly forward.
