Players that holdout should be suspended for the entire season. You sign a contract, you honor it. Teams need to stop giving into these overgrown babies.

Why? If a team can cut you in the middle of a contract and NOT have to pay you why should a player who has out played his deal not be able to hold out? If Revis was Ryan Leaf there would be no issue. The fact is this, THE HEAD COACH has called this kid the BEST defensive player in the NFL on many many occasions, now he wants to get paid like it not because he's gredy but beacuse 2 weeks after the season was over the Jets went to his agent and TOLD HIM they wanted to redo the deal. I hate crybaby athletes just like the next guy, but when you risk losing millions to an injury you have no choice but to look out for your best interest.

This is non-sense. Revis is a commodity that would be tossed aside in a heartbeat of he tore his ACL beyond repair. Players who have leverage on their side should absolutly hold out and get their money. To say a player in the NFL signed a contract and should honor it blindly demonstrates a lack of knowledge on the NFL marketplace. Owners cut players all the time. You tear an ACL and can not recover; and that 10 million you were going to get over the next two years............forget about it. Too bad. Your contract is terminated.

A player should 100% have that same bargaining power when his situation imporves.

It isnt non-sense at all. Greed is ruining the sport.

When was the last time a player asked for their contract to be renegotiated to get paid less because he had a bad year?

Never. They only want to get paid more when they have a good year.

A man is only as good as his word and when you sign a contract, you honor it. You have the right to ask for another contract; however, if they decline you need to stay true to your word and honor what you signed and when it is done, you can move on.

When is the last time YOU asked for a pay cut because you had an off year?

I want you to give this spiel next time a player loses his contract to a career ending injury. The owners should honor their word, right?

You do realize that their are stipulations in those contracts regarding injuries and that part of those contracts are guaranteed even if the player is injured, cut, or whatever else may cause his career to end? They dont just stop getting paid under normal circumstances and on top of that, they are part of a union. When a player gets injured, they dont just get cut off that second.

When you sign your name to a contract, you are entering into an agreement with another party. You are giving your word you will live up to your part of the agreement. Contracts are the entire foundation of business in this country. If every single person decided to holdout of their part of the contract when they decided they wanted more money this world would go to complete ****. Nothing would get done.

A player has every right to ask for a new contract. However, if that is declined, he needs to honor his existing contract and then he can choose to move on when his contract is up. If he didnt want to honor his existing contract, he shouldnt have signed for as many years as he did. Players always want these long, guaranteed contracts but then when they have 1 good season they think they can just back out and get a new one. Well, they need to choose one or the other. Either get short term deals so they can renegotiate when they perform well or get a long term deal and live with it.

Holding out has become a big problem in the NFL. If other professionals in regular businesses were to hold out every single time they wanted a raise they would be fired.
