The story is much longer than this, but I’ll make it short

To give some background, I only have one brother who is 4 years older than me and was always very mean to me.
When I was a kid, I was usually one of the shortest kids and I was very shy.
I remember several bullies and when one of them wanted to fight me, I was very afraid.
Time went by and I grew up to almost 6ft and I wasn’t afraid of fighting anymore
I think when I was in High School, my personality changed, I got tired of taking st from people and now I was ready to fight anybody that pissed me off.

Now as a grown adult, I don’t let anybody push me around (control me)
But now people, including my own mother, say that I’m grumpy and “I need to lighten up”

Has anybody else ran into this?
That you finally don’t let people push you around and then people start saying that you are grumpy?

There is a huge difference between "I don’t let anybody push me around " and "ready to fight anybody that pissed me off".
Maybe you need to moderate towards the middle.

As a grown adult what do you mean by "pushed around?" I assume you don't mean physically.

Let’s clarify a few things

When I said “ready to fight anybody” I was talking about my years in high school
When I say “I don’t let anybody push me around” I mean that I don’t let people control me

Can you give an example of how someone might try to control you and what you do to prevent it.

For example, a few years ago I was eating at a restaurant with a relative and this relative tells me that I should put the napkin on my lap and that I should use one fork for salad and the other fork for the main meal.
I told my relative that I wasn’t going to do it and that I eat the way I want to it.

Sounds petty, not really "not letting someone control you."

I knew I was going to get that response,
It’s just an example
And I don’t see any reason for an adult to tell another adult how to eat

Well maybe there are more substantive examples you could share? From both sides...the controller's and yours.

Another example,
When I’m at a party and I tell people that I don’t want to drink
And they keep on trying to get me to drink when I made it clear that I don’t want to drink

I said no and I’m not going to do it.
