2goldens, I was confused too. I could be mistaken, but the amounts in the recipe, doesn't look
like it matches the amount of filling in the cake. I'm thinking I would have to at least make half again as much, as the recipe calls for.

Hopefully amberbaby will clear it up. I only want too make one mess.

I'm confused about one thing - it's a four layer cake but you say to cut it once horizontally?
Then use long bread knife to cut each half in half?
Chances are that it can be baked in a 9 X 13 OR 2- round 8" cake pans, that would make the round cake.

Ok, shortening in a can, Crisco is it.

If I had my druthers and to do it again. I would do the round cake pans. I did the 9x13 but.......my pretty cake holder thingy is for round ones. Plus they are easier to maneuver.

I was kind of making the flour and milk step and I was kind of worried. I don't recall making a white sauce for a cake. But it came out real good. Kind of like whipped topping but a little heavier. The icing I had a problem with. I firmly believe that it was the operator.

I added too much powdered sugar. So, it did not taste like anything but. Luckily, I had a can of chocolate syrup. All is well. But even with the icing as was, it was not enough to cover a 9x13 cake.

The kids loved it.

Pandamoniam thanks for the update.

I also found another recipe using a round pan. One of the reviewers said to separate the filling because it is so rich. Here is another version.

Now we just need a taste test.
