Actually, I lived there, and yes it is part of Sparks.

http://www.ci.sparks.nv.us/ (broken link)

I enjoyed living out in Spanish Springs. It was nice and quiet and my neighbors were friendly. My only complaint was that there was very limited shopping/dining choices at the time (3 years ago), so whenever I had to pick up anything besides groceries I had to drive into Reno. Now there is everything from Costco to Home Depot to Best Buy to Gold's Gym to the ever-popular Starbucks and Walmart out there. It's amazing the amount of growth the area has seen, it is by far the fastest growing area of Sparks.

Spanish Springs, as you have noticed is the new growth area of Sparks. As a bedroom community, not many places to meet people. If you golf there is Red Hawk,,, there is a good horse population if you are into horses. The center of life in Reno is California street, and south Reno.

If you are young,, there a are lot of clubs

Curious how Spanish Springs compares to Sun Valley? And is there such a thing as Mom & Pop stores in either or pretty much franchise/big-box retail?

Spanish Springs runs from middle of the road to high end, with a few small stores

Sun Valley is the extreme low end, junky trailers and poor white trash... and upwardlay mobile hispanics, some nice subdivisions have gone in at the northern end.
