Does anyone experience loss of signal, loss of service due to the mountains, in the valley? I am researching a new carrier and wanting to make a good carrier for service in the area. I'm currently with AT&T - have been since 1993... Not a lot of calls, mostly social media, texts, internet.

any suggestions?

I Uber drive in the area and have no problems in the normal areas. Picking up trail hikers I will often lose service near Catawba.

I have Consumer Cellular (which I think uses either AT&T or T-Mobile...not sure which...)

Asking which cell service to use is getting about the same as asking which oil to use in your car.

With that said, We have Verizon on 4 phones. 3 of the phones are used mostly in WNC. We know where the service is good and where the service is bad on the routes we travel. We warn people we will be dropping a call and approx. when we will be calling them back.
The other phone is used primarily in up-state and mid-state Va. They also know where the dead spots are in their frequently traveled areas.

My best friend uses Consumer Cellular. Same issues.

My advice is to stick with one of the bigger names in the cell game and get used to dropped calls every blue moon.

True, and those coverage maps help, but my area of WNC is solid red coverage for Verizon, yet there are several areas around our location where there is NO coverage for several miles.

I have had so many intermittent coverage issues wandering around the area. I downloaded the Network Cell Info Lite App from the Google Play Store. It has been really helpful. Not only can I see signal strength from various towers, but I can walk or drive around to find out where I can switch from dead spots to spots with sufficient signal strength to send texts and voice calls.
