Roanoke or Lynchburg (safe area, to buy, taxes)

You say "Roanoke (not city)" but I would argue against that (maybe biased because im a product of city schools..graduated a few years ago ).

City schools (particularly high schools) are rated poorly for many reasons but "quality of education" is certainly NOT one of them.
Seanpecor (i think it was him) has done a great job addressing this many times so I would possibly look up some of his older posts and read them for more information.

This is even more true if you have (or are) a particularly bright or gifted student. In that case I would recommend Patrick Henry or William Fleming ABOVE any high schools area schools...easily.
I graduated from William Fleming from the International Baccalaureate program (google it for more info if interested) while taking Advanced Placement, honors and Dual Enrollment courses.
There is also the Governor's School (on the PH campus...serves all of the Roanoke Valley though).
If you graduate from William Fleming's IB program or the Governor's school you are pretty much guaranteeing yourself acceptance into your choice of school and almost certainty in getting large scholarships. Trust me.

I have many friends who have graduated from other schools and are admittedly somewhat envious of the opportunities I had coming from the city schools compared to their home schools.

I've been to Roanoke. Lynchburg is about half the size, as stated earlier. It sounds to me like you want to live in Bedford County, right outside the Lynchburg city limits. It's an area that has sprung up pretty fast with nice, new, affordable, homes. Lots of quiet streets, good schools, young families, and some brand new strip malls. Also, it's basically in Lynchburg, so you're close to all that we have to offer, while also being on the "Roanoke" side of the city, so you're only about 45 minutes from all that Roanoke has to offer too.

Do you ever get out of your house and actually try doing something?? Hillcats baseball is good in a nice park. LU football and basketball games are very good quality for around $10. Every college in town has plays, concerts, and other events all open to the public. There are lots of great restaurants. What exactly are you looking for?

Lynchburg is good for people who want a quiet, conservative, somewhat slow-paced lifestyle. Raising a family, going to church, involved in the schools and various other community activities. That's great. But if you are single, still have that party vibe left in you, or want a lot of culture that larger urban areas provide....drop Lynchburg right off your list immediately. Because it ain't here and never will be.

I can see where Joe is coming from because I'm a transient here, and I read other posts from others just like him who are in the same boat and have the same frustrated feelings. It's rather coincidental.

I think a lot of Lynchburg companies are bringing in people from the outside because for the size of this town, there are lot of transients, it surprises me. But a lot of these people probably come from larger cities elsehere and are just used to the bigger variety of things to do. Simple. It's a helluva life adjustment, and it makes them all angry and they need to vent. It is a culture shock! Really is.

Hey Joe, i ran across some Facebook groups that you should join. One is called Lynchburg, VA = Boring. The other is called Jokes about Lynchburg i think. Check them out, should be a good support group!

Oh yeah I get out.

1. Hillcats? Been to one, boring. I prefer the big leagues

2. LU events never did much for me. Never even heard of that place prior to my coming here. Plus too religious

3. I'm not a play dude. The concerts are all country when i looked and thejoe dont like country

4. Great restaurants? They're typical chains you find anywhere.

I want:

1. I'm not a bar hound, but when i want to go out for a cold beer, I want to go to a cool place with cool people to talk to, and alotta nice women (not college girls) to look at and flirt with. This is not in Lburgh.

2. I want adventurous people that like to do stuff out of the ordinary. These yokels around here dont know anything but what's going on in Lburg, and that's right

I'd bet thejoe wasn't brought here by one of the big companies in town. I'd also bet that as long as thejoe mopes around, his prospects with the women won't be too promising, though I do wonder how they take to a guy who refers to himself in the third person.
