Oooh don't think so.

Wow this really got off-topic, but the ratio of men to women in Lynchburg has got to be at least 5:1, not a place to pick-up unless you go after college girls.

On a positive note, the local college industry, save one, appears to be doing very well despite the recession. They provide both good jobs, entertainment and serve as a stable economic engine to the area.

Default historic home

I am a progressive thinker politically, not of conservative ilk. I want to be around intelligent people with good minds, where you can really talk world matters as well as a great vegi stand/farm. Would i be out of place in this area in VA? I don't mind what church one goes to - allow me my own choices tho!

I am looking to buy a beautiful historic home with low taxes. I am an artist.
i am a woman. (i don't mind the 5/1 ratio!)

I have read all the posts.

What would you say about me choosing the area? I hope to pay for my house outright and then have low taxes in a safe area and nice enough neighbors where I could still travel the world.

Thanks...

If you want to be around the progressives your odds are better being closer to Roanoke. It'll be hit and miss in L-Burg

We spent 2 months in Roanoke - scouting out a retirement or pre-retirement spot - and I definitely think Roanoke would be worth checking out for you. I can't speak on the amount of taxes - but with "progressive" interests - you should definitely look at the Raleigh Court or Old Southwest areas of Roanoke City. Some great home choices and a rather "progressive" spirit.

I confess I would be biased against Lynchburg - just driving through and seeing Falwell this and Falwell that - I'm not sure I could handle it - of course this is a very shallow analysis on my part - I'm sure Lynchburg is not as monolithic as it appears to the naked eye. But I can tell you I will never move there to find out.
