I was just thinking after seeing how Albany was able to host the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 for the Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament and they also hosted the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament last year. In the past, Buffalo and Syracuse have also hosted Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament games. Given that Rochester is the 3rd biggest metro area in the state and smaller metros such as Albany and Syracuse have hosted games, could Rochester ever host similar events as these other cities/areas have? Is it the arena? Is it hotel rooms?

I’m also curious if the city has at least hosted some NCAA D1 Hickey given that RIT is Division 1 in that sport(Men’s and Women’s). When I say that, I’m referring more towards something at Blue Cross Arena vs. games just hosted at RIT’s rink.

So, no takers as to why this is the case?

I know there has been some tournaments, but I guess on a smaller scale. I do remember some big games where St Bonaventure used Rochester for home court. I know Buffalo has someone on the payroll to actively scout out these types of events.

I actually think ROC would be pretty ideal. It’s big enough to absorb the crowds and keep them entertained. I think we have proper venues as well?
