Sacramento's lack of walkability outside the central city and inner neighborhoods is a big problem--but it is a direct consequence of the way those neighborhoods were built (all the postwar neighborhoods were designed around the needs of the automobile, not the pedestrian.) That just has to do with the era during which the city was built: every city that expanded a lot after World War II (which is most of them) has its ring of low-density suburban neighborhoods, or suburb cities outside its city limits, or both. Trying to fix that is a daunting issue--especially because a lot of folks in the suburbs really don't think it needs fixing.

And I guess I must be abnormal people, then, because I like Midtown just fine--and Downtown too!

Pros? Living in Sacramento.

Cons? Living in Sacramento.

Seriously, It's a great place to live if you like city stuff, one of the better places IMHO. If you seek a somewhat less crowed place the foothills beckon.

I'm sorry, but this sentence seems to indicate that there are no normal people in midtown.

I really wouldn't know one way or the other, just seems a reach of a statement to me.

Well, I've lived in midtown, worked in midtown, owned a business in midtown, and it's no place to raise a family or even to find decent neighbors. It's a very transient place, for one thing, and attracts too much of the wrong element. We left Sacramento when the lavender crowd put up an explicit billboard advertising a "phone sex" hotline just a block from the cathedral. No, thanks.

While I do agree that midtown probably isn't the greatest place to raise young children I disagree that it is lacking in decent people.

There are certainly decent people living in midtown. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. It's just that their share of the population is much smaller than elsewhere.

Depends...It is all based from a persons own opinion.

My definition: a person who has respect for others, manners, honest / integrity, non-criminal etc. ie: uses proper language in front of women and children, works and pays taxes...

No person is perfect or the same but have manners and respect. However, I believe they have long since disappeared from the majority of our society.

Online Dictionary: de·cent (dsnt)adj.1. Characterized by conformity to recognized standards of propriety or morality.
2. Free from indelicacy; modest.
3. Meeting accepted standards; adequate: a decent salary.
4. a. Morally upright; respectable.
b. Kind or obliging: very decent of them to lend you money.

5. Informal Properly or modestly dressed.

The topic of this thread was supposed to be the pros and cons of living in Sacramento, if the two of you want to discuss what constitutes a decent person, please start a different thread. Thank you.

And I'm asking from within the context of the pros and cons of Sacramento--they claim a "con" of Midtown is its lack of what they call "decent people," whereas I consider the people of Midtown to be a "pro," and think they're decent people. So if someone is considering the pros and cons of Sacramento, it might help to have a clearer picture of the sort of people both of us are talking about.
