Either way, it is more of what you need within walking distance vs having to commute. When we first bought out here in Westcreek in 1999, the CLOSEST grocery store was the HEB at Grissom and Culebra....9 miles away. Now we will have one within 2 blocks of our community gate, which makes it UBBER easy to get something...and works for those of us that live here much better than having to fight the Bandera Rd type of traffic that Culebra/1604 has become. I retire this year, and find that having all this within walking distance will be a VERY welcome...wish we had timeline info on the building of this HEB and more info on the size/type. I have heard it is to bekinda like Central Market, but not quite as upscale.

I wish it was a Central Market. Or better yet I wish it was a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. Our side of town is long overdue for a foodie store.

Just as an FYI, the Central Market concept with HEB is dead. Never pushing forward. The existing ones are the only ones... Period.

They're focused on those ridiculously large Plus stores in a failing attempt to out-Walmart Walmart.

WHY, Pancho-Villa?

Because I live literally within walking distance and I won't have to deal with the Culebra traffic nightmare anymore if I want to go to the grocery store. They can't build it fast enough, in my opinion. My wife and I are ecstatic.
Now you can deal with the Alamo Ranch Parkway / Alamo Parkway traffic. Not only that, a new HEB will be a magnet for those aforementioned 10,000 new houses and /or apartment complexes. Careful what you wish for.

The way I see it is , I live here and I'm not going anywhere. They are going to build something someday and the traffic will follow. May as well be something I can use.

Got some "scoop" on it...it will not be done until 3rd Qtr, 2015...so we have a little bit of a wait...but it IS coming. The one at 1604 and Culebra WILL remain open (YEAH!!!) and the main reason HEB is doing this is because Walmart is putting in those little "Neighborhood Market" grocery stores all over this side of town (Marbach and Ellison, Hunt and Military and Guelibeau Rd), so they see that if they DON'T move into the hood, they will get moved in upon. While I like HEB much better than Wally World, the prices for food IS cheaper at Wally...and if the competition makes it move, you could get squashed. Would be interesting to see if Walmart has bought property closer to us then the aboved mentions areas...which could push up build time to ensure your "loyalty"???? Competition is ALWAYS in the best interest of the consumer!!! It will be a reg HEB, not a PLUS store or Central Market type.
