Didn't notice anything slick on the school route from Fair Oaks to Boerne this morning, despite temps being 31. It normally takes a few days of sub-freezing temps to get the roads cold enough to develop icy patches. Recommend exercising caution on elevated roadways/bridges, and areas where trees or buildings shade roadways. Reports of icing out towards Kerrville and Junction, so be careful if heading that way. I-35 is a mess from Georgetown through DFW according to the traffic layer on Google maps. In addition to the massive pile up in Fort Worth, there was a smaller one in Austin this morning I heard about coming back from the high school.

Plan ahead for Sunday and Monday.
Yeah, I was scheduled to work in Dallas next week, but not going to take a chance. No way.

The temperature on Monday night dropped from 14F to 11F right now (San Antonio) and to 3F for Dallas...

We're in the Hill Country. We had an ice storm yesterday and roads are bad. I10 is closed in several areas, with stranded cars. Trees and other plants are encased in ice. Highs below freezing and lows in the 20's for now, but Sunday night's low is expected to be 5 and Monday's, 2. And last week, 70's. I really hope people keep their pets indoors until it warms back up. Remember, if it's too damn cold for people, it's too damn cold for pets!!

Not only that ^^^
If you are a homeowner - get prepared for the deep freeze: cover outside pipes, faucets, disconnect garden hose, drain sprinklers, make sure your car has enough antifreeze etc.
Cover your ornamental plants, buy extra mulch & drain your rain barrel.
Forecast for Monday night is now 9F.
Stay warm and be safe!

Yes, that too!! We had a pipe burst during the last arctic front (so cold, our tiles cracked in the corners on the foundation) and it really sucked. Had to turn the water off at the main until a plumber could come, which took 2 days because this happened to lots of other people and the plumbers were working almost around the clock. Expensive too, better to avoid in the first place.

As for plants, we brought most everything indoors, but we have several potted plants which are way too heavy to move so we'll find out how they fare in this weather. Probably not too well since they are covered in ice.

I went to H‑E‑B up here in Austin today, just because I was out (I’ve been doing Amazon Prime and curbside lately) and holy crap, it was like March 14, 2020, out there. SO crowded. We’re getting ready for a few epic days up here in Austin. Highways in the northwest part of town were closed all night and late into the morning today. We’re expecting record snow and cold. I think everyone is, but again, epic is the word that comes to mind. Y’all stay safe!

Easy, homemade windshield de-icer:
https://www.wisebread.com/3-cheap-an...lus-bonus-tips

I heard people up north TX complaining about windshield fluid that got frozen. Check on that. Add little alcohol to it.

Cover exotic plants with burlap (HD, Lowes) and the roots with mulch. Bring smaller, potted plants indoors.
