Did anyone else see a couple of bright flashes in the sky tonight around 8pm?
We were leaving Bradley MS and saw two enormous bright flashes in the sky.
Anyone?

It could have been heat lightening. Sometimes when the weather changes suddenly that happens.

YES! We saw it twice about 5 seconds apart. Then it happened again about a minute later. We were getting gas at loop 410 and I-35 NE....it was NW of where we were. Which way were you facing?

At first I thought it was a promo search light ....but it was more of a flash than a sweeping beam light. It was really bright....the sky was perfectly clear with some wispy cirrus clouds above, and it lit up that portion of the sky.

Moki....I've never heard of heat lightning. What kind of conditions have to be present for it. I haven't watched the news so I don't know what's going on with the weather.

Interesting to see......

That's right, it happened again about a minute later! Three flashes all together!
Bradley MS is about 1/2 mile east of 281 off Brookhollow and Heimer. We were facing more or less NW when we saw the flashes. It was really weird!

Do you think it could have been something at Camp Bullis?

My son went to Bradley, so I know exactly where you were. We were about 5 miles SE of where you saw it.....and it was bright. I thought it might have been over near McAllistar Park....but it must have been huge if it was way past you at Bradley!

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned seeing it. I bet it get's mentioned on the news. I don't think there is any activity going on at Camp Bullis.....not that would create several flashes of that magnitude without sound or tremors.

Mojokitty's explanation makes sense....I just don't know what heat lightning is.

My husband called WOAI TV and they had not heard of anything. The lady told him maybe he saw an UFO. She added that even if it had been an UFO, they had been inundated with so much election stuff that the UFO would have to land in Hemisfair Park to get any press coverage!

Also, he doesn't think the conditions are right for heat lightning, but you never know.

We were just reading up on heat lightning and I agree. There has to be a storm within about 10 miles or so....so the flash would be seen, without any sound. I saw stars in the sky above us, and no sign of storms anywhere. Plus it usually occurs in the summer when it's very hot.

I have lived at Potranco and 1604 and have noticed this for years. I think its from the South Texas Research place off 211. I have seen it going to work at citi 12 years ago off 211 at 5 am one time.
