Crazy in Suburbia: What's with all the white people in Broadway Plaza's promotional renderings?

"Still, you can't get around the fact that Walnut Creek is mostly white, according to 2010 Census figures. Seventy-eight percent of us identify as white.

Then again, that's lightly less than 2000, when Walnut Creek was 84 percent white. And, those 2010 figures show that Walnut Creek has become increasingly diverse: 15 percent Asian, 8 percent Hispanic or Latino and 2 percent African-American.

So with these numbers, showing that Walnut Creek is becoming more diverse, I'm wondering what to make of the almost totally white world depicted by the Broadway Plaza renderings. Hmm, is it possible the Black Brunch protesters had seen the "white utopia" these images depict?"

The author of the article clearly has too much time on their hands.

I'd be suspicious about the source and its' agenda - as Unz seems to associate himself with some quacks with pseudo-scientific theories about race like Steve Sailer, John Derbyshire.

Also, while Latinos may not be increasing or emigrating to the Bay Area as much as before, one has to also consider

1) organic growth - the Latiino population is younger than, say, the Anglo population and are more likely to increase through bearing children

2) Latinos moving to other parts of the state, such as the Central Valley, Sacramento, Inland Empire, either from other countries outside the US or other states.

I don't have a problem with Sailer. He has great analysis of cultural demographic trends California. I agree with you that the high prices could slow down the growth in the Latino population who are moving to cheaper areas. The Latino parts of the Bay Area such the Mission are becoming white while places like Hayward and San leandro could become more Asian than Latino.

The issue with Walnut Creek and all "majority white" neighborhoods is $$$. More often than not better locations mean more expensive homes --->higher incomes--->Whites and Asians TYPICALLY earn much more and not because of their race per se.

I can't believe someone actually took the time to scrutinize a stupid rendering. Those are typically done by the architects or designers. The readily available standard blocks/entourage for these programs are mostly white - -maybe we should protest and say these people making the blocks/entourage for these rendering programs are racist. LOL.

There's definitely a double standard. People complain if an area is majority white. But it's OK if vast areas are overwhelmingly non white. Walnut Creek could end up being majority Asian in 30 years.

I don't see it as an issue provided that these minorities are professionals leading decent lives and setting good values to their families/children etc. (E.g Burlingame/Hillsborough/San Mateo - - predominantly "minority" but still desirable in my opinion) but if a city is slowly being dominated by drug-dealers and low lives, regardless of color (e.g -insert all derogatory racial slurs possible here-) then that's the problem.

I hate to say this but again, most "desirable" cities I find are either dominated by Whites or Asians.

I've noticed that the most desirable areas such Palo Alto and the Westside of LA are about evenly divided between Anglo, Jewish, and Asian. An all Anglo place is viewed as a boring middle suburb, an all Jewish place an Orthodox Ghetto, and all Asian a Chinatown. Rich people want diversity just the right kind.

Well, maybe you should. Sailer is well-known to run around in racialist circles, writing for VDare, a white nationalist site. He has often advocated that there are links between race and intelligence as well as other pseudo-scientific postulates. Basically he's a crackpot dabbling in pseudo-science.
