It sounds like he wishes he were in Hong Kong. But instead, he's in Walnut Creek? Maybe he should do something about that.

What are you talking about? There are four crosswalks at that intersection (Main St and Parkside).

I don't disagree a lot of land around BART stations is underutilized but the comparison to Hong Kong is extreme and ridiculous. This blogger doesn't really seem to have a good grasp on reality, context, and how to get their point across.

Isn't BART about to have new cars with pretty much every thing this "blogger" is complaining about fixed? Digital LCD displays of station information, 3 doors, bench style seating, more poles to hang on to, etc etc.

As for being like Hong Kong, I'm not sure the answer to the Bay Area's transportation problems. Americans love open space, which Hong Kong literally has none of. Not everyone wants to live in a 300 sq feet house with neighbors all around you.

Yes except for the bench style seating.

Also Hong Kong's real estate prices are even more expensive and affordable than the Bay Area, just saying.....

Exactly. And BART is more like commuter rail than a subway. It's relatively low frequency, and used for commuting, mostly, in a generally car-oriented metro area where people like their homes. Why would there be Hong Kong-like districts in the middle of Fremont or wherever?

Seeing the typical "Bay Arean" NIMBY mentality right on this thread.

If I proposed to make even a short portion of El Camino into another Wilshire, I'd be drawn and quartered.

OH, we are soooooooo Green .... aren't we? Aren't we?

Probably by residents that live in that area but most people on this thread and in this forum seem to support higher density next to train stations. HK is a ridiculous comparison though, Metro DC or European suburbs would be more reasonable imo.

Without MIMBY's I think that's feasible. There are tons of strip malls on El Camino between Palo Alto and San Jose that could fit in highrises. Also the parking lots near the Palo Alto Shopping Center could fit several highrises.

Robert Stark interviews Korezaan about Transit & Urbanism - The Stark Truth With Robert Stark

A good point brought up in the interview is that NIMBY's use the airport height restrictions for San Jose. Korezaan points out that SFO is right under a steep mountain.

I agree they need more mixed use, but considering the station isn't walkable for most iliving in the area and is near shopping, where exactly you expect people to park?

I don't understand why BART didn't design new cars with bench seating. Not only does it create more center space, it makes it easier for people to get up and easier for those luggage. It's really annoying having to ask people to move so you can get in and out, especially when the trains are crowded.
