The 40% increase in salary will not balance out the increase in income Tax and home prices being 6-7 times more expensive.
I don't think $67,000 a year is going to be a step up.
Who said anything about buying a home? I'm looking at one bedroom apartments, and unless apartment guide is lying, there are several listings in Hayward, Fremont and San Leandro for between $1,300&$1,800/month, which would be less than 3x my monthly gross income

I used a tax calculator and the effective CA state income tax rate at $70k/yr would be 5%, so after state and federal, I would take home about $1k/week net.

I only take home $760/week net right now, so that would still be a 31.6% jump in my NET income

By the way, I didn't mention Fremont because it is more expensive than the other areas due to the school system. There's another city called Milpitas next to Fremont that is cheaper but there is a landfill nearby and sometimes it smells pretty bad and you can smell it from certain parts of Fremont. Newark is another city to look into as well.
If you'll work in Hayward, you can also check cities more inland like Dublin and Pleasanton, and if you want real cheap, there is Tracy. Your commute to Hayward from Tracy would be an hour each way with traffic, though.

I am familiar with what I call the "inland 4" in San Joaquin Co, (Tracy, Lathrop, Manteca&Ripon), and no way, it is 50 miles from Lathrop to Hayward. My fiance has found some complexes in Pleasanton and Dublin that she likes, with one bedrooms between $1,900-$2,100/month that are nicer quality than the cheaper places in Hayward, Fremont and San Leandro
