So glad I didn’t buy there….

3 Vehicles Stolen in the heart of Lakewood Ranch by an armed gang

As police arrived they ghost rode the cars into a pond to just completely total them.

Multiple hand guns were recovered so if you happened to confront or even accidentally come across the thieves you would be shot on the spot.

Two were also charged with home invasion while the residents were inside.

Of the gang members caught one was only 14, unknown if any of the ones that got away were younger.

My guess is all of them will get probation at most.

Please, we have enough fake news.

"armed gang" = four teens 14, 15, 15 and 19

"multiple guns" = two firearms

"ghost road the cars into the pond to just completely total them" = jumped out of the two cars, which both continued to roll into a pond.

You are trying to make LWR sound like the South Bronx or downtown LA. But, unlike crime in the major US cities, the Sheriff's Office here caught all four of them without shots being fired or any injuries.

The fact that it happened is disturbing enough. No need to embellish. And don't keep your keys in your car - lock it.

And about a year ago a guy broke into an LWR house armed with an AR-15, and a guy was killed during an armed car jacking gone bad. LWR is not crime free.

The facts speak for themselves. Only 4 were caught there were believed to be at least 6. These are the fine outstanding youth your kids will be going to high school and even jr high with.

Presumably the firearms were stolen since none of them were old enough to purchase one legally.

What do think the chances are a judge will order them to get a job and make restitution on the cars they totaled? Hint it’s between 0 and 0

1, LWR is not crime free. Agreed.

2. Facts speak for themselves. Agreed. That is why I said embellishment was unnecessary.

3. None were old enough to buy arms. Agreed, but misleading. A 19 year is old enough to possess, but not buy. Here the issue is possession.

4. Odds Judge orders get a job and make restitution? Small. Depends on Judge.

Some people around here seem to attempt to minimize or paper-over the gradual but increasing severity of crime all over Manatee, Sarasota and Lee Counties. Worse yet others seem to think or believe that the Lakewood Ranch development is some kind of isolated city, town or other sort of political subdivision. It's simply another neighborhood/development mostly within Manatee, and now Sarasota counties, thus prone and certainly ripe for all kinds of crime and danger. That area is not some kind of walled-off, independently patrolled/protected or special area. Criminals, young and old are quite mobile throughout the entire area.

Want to get an accurate understanding of the existence/location/level of crime in and around the Lakewood Ranch development? make a phone call to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and read about the the dispatched calls on their newly updated website. It's enlightening if you're really interested about the truth of criminal activity. Using the level of crime found in say, Los Angeles as a barometer when assessing acceptable levels of community crime for Manatee and Sarasota Counties seems wrong-headed, but it seems that newly-arrived transplants enjoy doing it all the time. For them, (not natives), everything, including crime, food, traffic, amenities, housing, congestion, schools, healthcare, etc is relative. In fact, I've discovered that most of these new arrivals look at everything in Manatee, Sarasota and Lee counties through a narrow prism of relativism, and their resulting "vision" must be Gospel.

Correct. And one of the thugs, Tyreak Allen (really that's his name) is 19 years old.

The sheriff's office said in total three of the teens were charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, two with aggravated fleeing to elude, two with burglary of an occupied dwelling, two with loitering and prowling and one with resisting arrest without violence.

Neighborhoods were Harmony and Central Park within Lakewood Ranch.

One of these fine upstanding "non-gang members" also failed to comply and had to be taken down with a K-9.

Nothing to see here, move along. No big deal.

Are Realtors required to disclose this to potential buyers if they ask about the safety or crime in the Lakewood Ranch area, or is it buyer beware?

How do the Lakewood Ranch zip codes rank for crime vs. Palmer Ranch?

I lived in Palmer Ranch for 1.5 yrs and never heard of anything like this, but we had a manned guard gate w/ partrol.

Do these 2 communities have guard gates, and are they manned? Are there camera's? Did the perps enter in a vehicle? Or, did they walk in and steal the vehicles while inside the gates?

I'd like to learn more about the details of these purported crimes.

Realtors can’t comment on crime by law, they will tell you to check with the police department.

I’m assuming those neighborhoods were ungated.

They arrived in another stolen vehicle. You can have all the cameras you want, but all it gets you is the license plate of another stolen vehicle.
