Don't you still need electricity to run on solar panels? Or at least for the electric company to still be running?
No…we just need the sun. We’re “off” the grid. We have 2 Tesla and two Genarac storage battery walls. We generate our own water and power without being tied to the water or power companies.

That sounds really nice. All this time I thought electricity was a must for solar panels. Very interesting that people don't all have to rely on the electric company. This is genius!

Not everybody needs to rely on electric company, but do need to specify an off-grid controller with "islanding mode", this is usually omitted from "solar lease" systems.
Other forms of power generation and storage can also benefit from "islanding".

This is so interesting. Is there any specific brand/company that would have islanding mode, or is that something people have to do themselves somehow?

Anything sold for "off-grid" should offer it, or if you go with a professional installer, just be sure to make your use case and requirements clear when you ask for a quote.

I had no idea what TEOTWAWKI meant until I looked it up. Never heard of it before.
Everyone knows what SHTF is. I've made it perfectly clear in my posts that I've been talking about a catastrophic, life-changing event that will cripple every service we know and disable every utility beyond restoration.

You didn't know the term TEOTWAWKI because this isn't really your usual stomping grounds. Preppers have their own vocabulary, and sadly, many in the prepper community use some of the terms interchangeably. I have, from time to time, worked a bit, here and there, to try to document it, in a consistent and somewhat precise, way.
Maybe I should try to restart that lexicon, again.

Java I'm totally on board with you that in extreme SHTF things can get really ugly. Like nobody knows if we might end up getting nuked by Russia and things can get really bad if we don't prepare. I do hope it doesn't happen, and we can all just feel satisfied in knowing that if anything did happen we would be better prepared than the rest.
