I hope it will be a success. The main problem we have been having is the declining revenues of the other boats. Although it's still good, I hope the timing is ok on this.

I can't speak for Lake Charles, but considering Shreveport-Bossier is currently leading the state and the nation in GDP growth, if the casinos left here today, the only negative thing that would happen is we would be left with a lot of empty high-rise hotels. People wouldn't visit like they do now, but this area would be far from crippled.
We're golden for at least the next 40 years thanks to the Haynesville Shale natural gas formation.
Additionally, Margaritaville will be an excellent draw for this area and will cause a lot of the gamblers who have moved on to the Oklahoma casino just north of the state line to come back. There are a lot of "parrot-heads" who would also begin coming here just to visit Margaritaville. We don't have to bring in tourists to keep our economy going, but having them doesn't hurt.

By the way, the Margaritaville public vote passed 61%-39%, so Margaritaville will be breaking ground in Bossier City on January 1.

Some folks I know on a social basis who run in the EcDev / Chamber circles privately say that Margaritaville will usher in the decline of one of two casinos. The thinking shared is that within a couple years after MV opens, BoomTown or DiamondJacks will cutback or be sold. It's felt that with increased competition and with WindStar north of Dallas, the NW La. casino mkt is pretty tapped as it is. Add a weaker/slower economic recovery for the next 2 to 3 years and you can see that possibility.

What needs to happen is, Diamond Jacks needs to make a deal with Hard Rock Casino and re-brand itself as a Hard Rock Casino & Hotel. The namesake alone will help save them. I don't doubt that one of the casinos might be sold, but all of our current casinos have been sold at least once. It's nothing new and it even happens in Las Vegas.

I don't disagree at all about casinos being bought & sold as normal business. But the sad truth is that when the Isle of Capri was bought out by Diamond Jacks, the quality of customer experience declined considerably. I used to go to the Isle after it opened and I've been to DJ's a few times. No comparison IMHO. It feels more like a glorified truckstop as far as what it used to be. Tattoo parlor? You gotta be kidding. With each casino sale in Shreveport-Bossier, the new owners have cut back in things that branded the previous ownerships and made things appealing for folks to come in. I've seen the buffets take a hit and even some of the "fine-dining" venues lose some of the upscale taste they once had. Such experiences might make the case that future sales would result in even more downgrades to save money. And given the current economic situation for the foreseeable future, I'd wonder how attractive a casino property in NW La. is these days compared with just a few years ago.
