With the crumbling local economy you won't find "any new carriers" signing on to SG service soon unless the county or state subsidizes this expansion, not just hard costs, but what about marketing too? Airport improvements and expansion now are a good thing, costs much less now rather than later. But a city the size of SG doesn't have a lot to offer in terms of passenger revenue miles so unless locals pay for the hard cost expansion don't expect the airlines to do so. Not likely the county can afford it so maybe the State or Fed's? A long shot but maybe?

The SG area will continue to grow, eventually there will be [several years minimal] economic & social growth which can support one, maybe more regional air carriers but if that's what you're banking on now? Don't mix up long term "growth" possibilities or pipe dreams with short term realities.

The only thing making an airport "International" is whether it has customs. And that's just for inbound flights. But whatever status the new airport has it'll sure be a step in the right direction of bringing Southern Utah to the 21st century. Or at least the 20th.

this is a great idea. because mcarran international, is packed during the season that tourists that want to go to the national parks zion, bryce,lakepowell,grandcanyon,grand circle area. combined with the tourists that hit lasvegas.is starting to overwhellm mcarran. nevada was actually going to build another international airport to take up the slack.it is still in the works but why should they have all the fun and income? I think the government realized this and is going to let it be built in stgeorge ut, even tourists that want to go to lasvegas only have a couple hour drive at most to las vegas. plus the cargo planes that have cargo for utah wont have to land in vegas. so i think this is a win win situation. thanks

Can't wait for that airport. When flying from Oklahoma to St. George...had to go to Vegas and then drive up. If I wanted a ticket from Oklahoma all the way to St. George, there was another 200.00 charge. It would be great to have a direct flight there.

It's really a sad thing that for the entire state of Utah there are only two airports availible. And one of them is in Nevada. You can fly Sky West out of Cedar or St. George to Salt Lake. But for the cost it's a lot cheaper for southern residents to take a shuttle to McCarren or drive and park. McCarren is one of the few large airports that's owned by a county. And they make money on it. If St. George can pull it off that'll be great. The economy isn't going to be in the dumps forever.

I think things will be looking up for St. George in the next couple years, only because I heard on the news a couple weeks ago that St. George and Seattle were in the top five for growth in industry in the next few years. I hope so.

Me too! We are a painting company and things have slowed way down, still not as bad as other areas though!
