I'm glad you wrote this thread. I did this after my daughter was born, I kept taking my pre-natal vitamins. My nails and hair were wonderful and the doctor (who was a woman) told me it was indeed because of the pre-natal vitamins.

One of the things that makes your hair better when your pregnant is that your hair falls out less then when your not pregnant.

I also take prenatal prescription vitamins. I have to get my hair cut every 5 weeks due to how fast it grows. My nails also grow very fast.

As stated before, if you take pre-natals, just don't take any other vitamins. It is possible to accumulate too much.

I've been taking the stewart (stuart?) over the counter pre natals for about a month - not pregnant yet - and have definitely noticed positive change in fingernail strength and length. Hair just seems healthier and shinier. careful with over doing it though.

I take prenatals and have for the past 7 yrs now, because I was either TTC, pregnant, or nursing (still nursing). I find my hair and nails to be much nicer than before I took them.

I also find that most commercial brands of vitamins are useless for me, as (TMI alert) they go right through me undigested. My preferred brand is the Rainbow Light prenatals I get at the healthfood store, they are awesome.

I've heard Rainbow Light is a good brand. I might look into that. Thanks everyone! I'll let you know if anything strange starts to happen as a result of my taking prenatal vitamins...haha!

Prenatal vitamins have never failed to improve the health of my nails and hair. I have read in some health magazines that if you take prenatal vitamins when you are not pregnant you should take them every other day. I asked my Dr. and she said that It is safe to take them every day. I reccomend increasing your water intake regardless. If you don't drink an adequate amount of plain water daily, your hair and nails will most likely lose thier luster. Your Dr. probably wont tell you this but it is my secret for healthy hair nails AND skin. Every cell in your body needs water and if you are dehydrated (like most people are) vital organs will steal water from other parts of your body....such as hair and nails. So, to make a long story short, I suggest you take the prenatal vitamins AND drink at least 64 ounces of plain water a day.

The next time someone compliments you, why not be gracious, smile, and say "Thank you"?

I know the OP was asking about pre-natal vitamens but I wanted to suggest Bioten as a supplement for hair. I believe it has helped mine.
