Although no serious harm can be done by this treatment, prenatal vitamins can cause several problems. The high iron content tends to cause constipation in many women. Nausea and vomiting are two more side effects that are often reported by women taking prenatal vitamins. In themselves, these are rather minor and transient problems — however, taking prenatal vitamins constantly could make these problems chronic. Chronic constipation and nausea can of course in turn cause other more serious problems.

Nausea, vomiting, and constipation are also typical, common symptoms of pregnancy. The vast majority of people who take prenatal vitamins are, not surprisingly, pregnant.

Also, since the OP asked this question back in 2008, I'd have to assume he/she has already discovered whether or not prenatal vitamins would pose a problem for him/her.

I take one tablet a day, my doctor said it was ok, just don't take two of them, since you are not pregnant
