please don't think that the rank-and-file always agree with the political decisions made by the union leadership. i almost never did, and really resented that my dues were used to support candidates and causes i personally opposed, and there was nothing i could do about it unless i gave up my union benefits! when gov. schwarzenegger tried to change this two years ago, the union increased dues and borrowed millions against the pension fund to wage a campaign against him, and won. i was so glad i was no longer a teacher by then.
