I've thought about that. Trouble is I have no idea what to pick. Besides the top three that is and they don't appear to have openings if you look at the DPS website. No chemistry or physics openings either. That's odd. Just general science. I guess they want the coveted DI/DX certs too. They are taking applicants for a math pool (non school specific). Maybe I'll toss my hat in the ring and see what happens. As long as I don't end up in the holes in the map* maybe dh will be ok with it.
*When dh and I got married we was a truck driver and we had a church bus route in the inner city. As bus captain my job was go to out on Saturday and find out who was coming to church so I could plan the route. Knowing the city a lot better than me, dh took my map of the city and cut two large holes in it and then instructed me to drive around the holes not through them. Once I had jury duty and found myself in one of the holes trying to find my way back home. Man it was scary. Looked like a third world country.
When I met DH I was already working in the inner-city. Not much he could do.

No response from Detroit. You'd think they'd be anxious to fill slots. Every other application I've sent in has had an immediate response, though I wasn't the chosen candidate for any of them.

I don't know their process. Do you put in an application and wait to hear something? Maybe you should call and say you wanted to check and see if they received everything.
They may have been closed this week. Our entire district shuts down for the week of the 4th of July. It's the only week that principals get off, according to our principal. I'd give them a call next week, or even go to their HR office. Our district is notorious for its response time to candidates, despite a serious teacher shortage.
I'm still hoping that our principal will find a geometry teacher. Sure you don't want to come down? Plenty of heat and humidity, but no snow.

Oh, sometimes the larger cities are SLOW. I applied to Charlotte last year, which is larger than Detroit, and didn't hear for months. I had to go to two job fairs, send out about 25 resumes and cover letters, and only got 3 interviews. I got one more from a private school last summer. I got two job offers, the private school and the job I took.
It is like they are so overwhelmed they can't deal.
I am now leaving CMS and going to a smaller district in the area.

When does school start up there?

They keep crying "teacher shortage" here but there's nothing posted and the interviews I've been on have been "speed round" interviews....they type they do when they have too many candidates and need to select the ones who go on to the next round. I stink at that kind of interview. They give you questions about situations taken out of context and then judge you on your answers. In my mind context is everything.

It is. They ask questions like "A student says an assignment you gave them is stupid" what do you say? Well that depends on the student in question and the assignment in question, sigh. I never know what they are looking for. It's not the kind of interview I'm good at. I'm much better at teaching a lesson. When I get the chance to teach a lesson I'm usually in the top two. Put me in a field of 20 and put me through a speed round interview and I never get picked to come back and teach that lesson.
I really wish the shortage of math/science teachers they keep crying about was real. Anyone looking for a job can tell you it isn't.

I'd ask the student what assignment they would recommend that covers the same skill.
