Wow, talk about a no brainer to me.
Unless you're willing to relocate to another state where the education leaders/legislators have a brain that's not affected by smoking too many joints, I would keep the job you have. The requirements in Colorado as stated by your post are simply ridiculous and THEN you're rewarded by a massive pay cut. I wouldn't worry too much about what the Principal wants you to do. He sounds like someone who can easily understand the common sense negatives towards you pursuing your certification.
