If someone wants to switch careers into teaching, how does one go about determining exactly which exams to take to open up most of the opportunities? I can't seem to find a requirements matrix or other chart - do I call TFA and other programs up one by one, and compile their requirements into a giant Excel spreadsheet ? Or am I overthinking this whole thing - just pick a subject I am good at tutoring students in and go from there? If I do that, will I find that every program I apply to requires another Praxis exam that I have not taken yet?
Each state has a different Praxis requirement. Generally you take one (or more) covering general education of all subjects then take one (or more) that's more in-depth covering the subject you want to teach.
You may be doing a cart before the horse thing here. I don't believe you have a teaching certificate so the first thing is to determine whether you can get a provisional certificate.
I took my PRAXIS during the end of my grad school stint (Masters in Teaching). Do you need to get a teaching certificate? perhaps reaching out to a university is your first step.
