Hey Jareb/John? Nice pictures. I guess you were lucky to get them, since some of these posters were off on their dates by about two months.

Thanks Bellringer.....I think we hit the early part of the bloom because there were many more closed flowers than open but the desert was still beautiful. It is hard to predict a date but the last few weeks of April through the beginning of May seems to give you the best shot. Stayed at Westward Look again this year...always a great time in Tucson!

The saguero cactus fully bloom at night. Otherwise the 'flower' would be fried and the nectar evaporated. The Mexican free tail bats migrate during the 'bloom' and take the nectar much like humming birds. In this way thay have the fuel to cross the vast expanse of the Sonora. It's a symbiotic thing.
