Marcy -

As someone who grew up as an Air Force Brat and spent half his childhood years living on military bases in Europe during the height of the Cold War I have to say it still startles me read things like "stationed in Papa, Hungary at the new NATO base". Though I know intellectually that Hungary is part of NATO now, viscerally it still seems a bit unreal.

My, how the world has changed.

It should. It's your location, with with emphasis added.

While you're enjoying that freedom you might want to take a moment to ponder upon and thank those who acquired that freedom and have defended it for over 200 years.

It is, indeed, heavy stuff!

One last comment. If your part of the country isn't supporting the Honor Flight Program, it should be. The goal of the National Honor Flight program is to fly over 5000 WWII Veterans to THEIR memorial. The top priority is to fly WWII Veterans and those Korean/Vietnam Veterans dying of a terminal illness to Washington, DC, enabling them to see America’s “Thank You” for their service. This is made possible by individual and corporate donations and provided at no cost to the veterans.

Head-turning indeed!

I think you missed the point of my comment. It was more a 'wow, the mountains are great' than it was a 'thank you countless wounded and tortured veterans for murdering, being shot, maimed and dying so I can look at these mountains'.

I feel more pity for veterans and servicemen and women than I do anything else.

And even if were an entirely different country, the mountains would still be free.

I love jet noise, Ill admit. The sound of a jet engine is almost as glorious as a Ferrari V8. Almost.

No, I didn't miss the point. You've clearly missed what the point should be. But since you put veterans in the same sentence with "murdering," enjoy the mountains while you can. Pardon me if I continue to believe that I served to help keep that enjoyment possible.

Of course it can, but only if they're firing on all thrusters!

If it ever can be about jets and noise, we wouldn't have out-of-town visitors, would we...
