wow, hard to beleive atlanta is so up there, ppl always say it isn't walkable and that was my impression when i went
Baltimore seems 100 x more walkable, but i've spend so much time in Bmore, and only a week in Atlanta, so mabey im wrong

Yes, and I notice Cleveland has a respectable rating, too. People like to pick on Cleveland, but it's actually a pretty nice place to live.

I would place Baltimore above a number of them: San Diego, LA, Atlanta, Miami for sure. They are probably including the beach areas in those cities because I tried walking in LA and it was difficult other than being right in Venice and doing the beach. The same for Miami. Where do you walk when you are not in South Beach or along the ocean? I also don't think they are including public transit as part of the walking experience. Also, Detroit at #18???? I tried walking there also---not a pleasant experience for sure. And finally, NYC at #10???? Wow, I can't think of a city that is more walkable than NYC--Sorry but they are off on that one for sure.

I totally agree with you on that one! Atlanta is really spread out....

I know, but its still on the list. If I could think of one major city that is vastly un-walkable, it would be PHX. If you dont have a car there, youre pretty much screwed. The new light rail might help things a little bit, but its still a car-oriented city.

This list is obviously taking these sterile inorganic suburban "mixed use developments" into consideration. No way any city in TX, AZ, or SoCal could possibly make that list based on the city itself. In fact, modern version of pretty much every large city in the southwest quadrant of the lower 48 was built around a freeway system. These cities weren't supposed to be walkable in the first place!

8. Miami, Florida

Miami??? Really. That list is insane. What part of metro Miami is walkable? Only if youre in South Beach can you walk anywhere. Los Angeles is not walkable either. Unless youre smack in the middle of Hollywood maybe. And I agree about Phoenix and Atlanta not being walkable either. And really, New York City is in 10th?? I think that is the most walkable city in the US.
