Properly maintained AC units don’t leak anything. It’s a closed loop circuit.

Correct. Furthermore, technicians are required to capture refrigerant from AC systems before any service that opens the system.

Yes, and when they are no longer working there are recyclers that will safely drain the refrigerant before the metal gets recycled. They are no less safe for the environment than a refrigerator or freezer. The AC in the cars is far more likely to be leaking refrigerant, they often have to be recharged after 3-4 years.

I’ve drive a 1994 Ford F150 that hasn’t been recharged in 10 years and it still blows cold.
