LA has to be the worst. The population has become very dense through Orange County, Riverside, San Bernadino, Ventura and Palmdale areas. You can hardly go out in those areas, any time, day or night without getting stuck in traffic. Believe me, I've lived here for most of my life, and I'm just sick of it, and ready to go some place else just to get some peace.

Tampa and Las Vegas are the first that come to mind due to their very limited urban and dense areas. But really every large city has it pretty bad.

Kansas City has horrible sprawl for a medium sized metro area.

Than you need to include every major city in america. Houston may cover a large amount of land, but lots of it can't be used. The southern part is sinking, oil fields on the east side, and bayous running throughout the city. When you factor all this in, Houston's main population is probably within about maybe 400-500 sqm. That is why Houston's main parts are built very densely.

Colorado Springs is very bad. Denver is not among the worse but I think the way they developed the tech park hut the city but it does look good along I-25.

I still say the number one city for suburban sprawl is LA.

I think all cities have it to some extent. This is America after all and (on the whole) we love our cars--only difference is the city limits. Though they are the more obvious perpetrators, LA, Houston, Atlanta and Phoenix are only the tip of the iceberg.
