Houston is estimated to already have 2.3 million people.
(Houston's Wikipedia page has the population close to 2.9 million people and a MSA population of 6.5 million people. This is in the "fact table" in right. But in the actual article the facts are correct, I guess somebody has been messing with the page. Just thought I'd mention it, since I was about to type that Houston had a 2.9 million pop.)

Are you using MSA numbers? Washington-Baltimore is not a metropolitan area. It's a CSA. The main Washington MSA is 5.4 million. The entire Bay Area CSA is large, but just the main SF MSA is 4.3 million. So, unless these MSA's grow rapidly, theres no chance it'll be in this order.
Also DFW is 6.3 million, I doubt it'll grow by another 700,000 people in 2 years to grow to 7 million by 2010.
Also, no mention of Atlanta. Perhaps you forgot about the MSA of 5.4 million.
(I'm using 2008 numbers)

I think NJ will hit 9 million , Newark will rise to 290,000 ppl , I think Jersey City overtake Newark , with 300,000 ppl, NYC might lose a few thousand , PA will see a slightly grow. Basically the whole Megapolis BOS-Wash Corridor will grow by at least 5 million.

SJ has already broke the 1 million mark and SF is already 800,000 plus people...
Why haven't DC and Baltimore emerged into one metroplex?
For the same reason Philadelphia and New York haven't become a metroplex. They each have their own suburbs. Also, believe it or not there is still rural land between the suburbs of both cities.
