Business will be booming in NH for magazine sales. There's going to be massive civil disobedience. They stirred up a hornets nest.

Magpul is giving out 1200 free 30 round AR mags tomorrow in Montpelier. It's being called the Green Mountain Airlift. http://www.recoilweb.com/free-pmags-...ll-136138.html

There's a lawsuit already in the works against it too.

Yup, and a lot of those people getting 30 free rounds will think that they'll never lose their job because they're too sick to work and then go bankrupt because they'll have lost their health care coverage.

It's amazing how easily some people can be distracted from issues vital to their lives by something as cockamamie as anti-fluoridation or the need to defend against a tyrannical government.

Perhaps these important issues should be focused on by politicians instead of focusing on abridging civil liberties. We'd have had national healthcare in this country probably over 20 years ago if the democrats at the national level would stop pushing gun control. Laws that have never been proven to curb crime. This law will do nothing to make anyone safer. Remember Jack Sawyer purchased a shotgun for his plans at a dealer and passed a background check. As John Rodgers pointed out in the senate yesterday, every shot fired from a shotgun loaded with buckshot contains enough pellets to kill as many as a 20 round magazine of rifle cartridges will. The FL killer used 10 round magazines because he could conceal them more easily and sneak into the school with them. And New Hampshire is a short drive away from VT to buy whatever magazine someone wants anyways. VT just loses the tax revenue and there's a major backlash building.

I don't think anyone fully realizes how far this law goes in impacting everyday Vermonters. As 1.75" mini shells are available for 12 gauge shotguns, a pump action hunting shotgun (not exempt from the magazine ban) may be effectively banned by this law. A person who wants to leave a gun and its magazines to their children are not allowed to if it's one of many guns that no 10 or 15 round mags are available for (sure they can transfer the gun but it's a useless piece of metal without functional magazines). A taking without due process and compensation for the taking. I think there's an age discrimination case to be made too for the 18-20 year old people. This is going to be a long and expensive legal battle. For a law the assistant AG said is basically unenforceable. And if the law is declared unconstitutional, there's literally going to be thousands of additional lawsuits filed against the state seeking compensation for the impacts it had on them (lost revenue, couldn't buy or sell or inherit, on and on).

This will ultimately be a political disaster for the proponents, and for the State as a whole. As has already been stated, purchases that would have been made in VT will now be made in NH. VT loses so much already to folks shopping in NH, and now even more will go there. Bear in mind some of what will go to NH will have nothing to do with say the magazine purchase. It'll include the buying of gas, eating in a restaurant and other shopping "as long as we are here".

Meanwhile, the impact on organized shooting events will cost the state plenty as that's a lot of tourist dollars. Even with the one year delay, there will be an immediate impact in the 1st year in that some from other states will be afraid to come here out of fear that somehow they'd be found in violation.

There are many 2nd homes in VT purchased here by affluent folks from CT, NY, NJ etc in part because of the freedoms they had here. Now that VT is trying to model itself after those states, part of the appeal of VT has been diminished. No we're not near as bad as CT, NY, & NJ yet, but VT has signaled everyone that it will pass ill-thought through legislation. The anti-gunners are surely planning what they want to get next year and they look to CT, NY, NJ and elsewhere for guidance on what further restrictions are possible.

The worst part of all this is that none of it will do a single thing to improve school safety. There are common sense things that could have been implemented instead that would have directly enhanced school safety, but none of that was part of the discussion.

Was a huge crowd today. I know 1200 individuals got tickets for one mag each (myself included). Looked to be as many still on the steps and lawn while we were lined out onto the street in two directions for the mags. It was a sort of free mag as everyone contributed donations worth more than the mags they got for the legal fund. This pic doesn't do justice as it shows a tiny part of the crowd. senator Rodgers is speaking (in bright green).

Had some gun control activists driving up and down the road honking horns, screaming, and giving us the finger. One of them drove into a pole and took out one of their mirrors.

I'm willing to bet not one of those people fought for better health care for all Vermonters.

John Rodgers sure has. And he's a senator.

Contrary to some media reporting no ammo was given out. Empty magazines were. I decorated mine to remember the day, it isn't my only magazine.
