Shenmue.

Also any game by Kenji Eno (D, Enemy Zero, D2) and UT 99 have my vote as well.

Not sure yet about "best", but one game that came out recently and deserves a mention is Hotline Miami.

The original Spyro the Dragon game

Listening to it again as an adult literally puts tears into my eyes.

Maybe it's b/c I "romanticized it" since I remember listening to it and enjoying it from childhood?

The Rock Band series is filled with awesome music. Plus, Rock Band keeps adding on new songs every week which means that you would never run out of songs to play.

Final Fantasy IV. Quite literally every song in the game is fantastic. A perfect score. Every song made you feel like you were there.

Nobuo Uematsu is a musical genius.

Seriously, if you're not familiar with the game, you should go to Youtube and search Final Fantasy IV music. Make sure you listen to Dreadful Battle (Four emperors), but really though, listen to them all.

Anything by Uematsu (Final Fantasy 1-10) or Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears) is going to be fantastic but I think the one game that really desearves recognition in this thread is the PS3 indie game "Journey". Austin Wintory just completely outdid himself for this title and it shows.

The game came out of nowhere to be the first video game in history to be nominated for a Grammy. Every track is a masterpiece but if you listen to only one, listen to "Apotheosis".

Overall, the Castlevania series has the best imo. From the very first one on up.
