Virginia EZ Pass account for multiple transponders (credit card, to move)

Currently, I have only one vehicle and one transponder in my EZ pass account.

How does it work if there are two cars and two transponders (one transponder for each car, so no need to move transponder from one car to another car). How does EZ Pass account balance work? Is the balance shared by two transponders? Or each transponder has its own balance?

If Auto-Replenishment amount is $35, does it mean it will auto load $70 (for two transponders) each time to EZ pass account?

Just email or call the EZ Pass office, they are real good about responding and answering your questions.

Perhaps the simplest solution is to have two separate accounts? I don’t see any drawbacks.

Not a good idea to have two accounts, which means two sets of user/password. What if 3 cars or 4 cars in the future?

I have a single account with 2 transponders. It’s been a long time but I did it all online.
And I have the pay-as-you-go plan attached to a bank account/credit card.

We have one account with two vehicles and transponders and when the account is at the low threshold, it just draws the minimum amount.

It works very well!

The minimum Replenishment Amount is $35 (if you set $35 in EZ pass online account), so does it mean it will draw $70 each time at the low threshold? Since you have two transponders.

Did you contact the agency that issues the transponders? That's how you get the answer you are looking for.

Why do you think there would be a double replenishment for 2 transponders on the same account? If it's anything like Texas, there is one amount, regardless of the number of transponders. That amount might be increased if replenishment happens twice a week. For our household, with 3 transponders, replenishment is $20, same as it was with one.

You don't have to use the auto-replenish. You can always just add money to your account periodically. But if you do prefer an automatic draft, the auto-replenish minimum amount is going to be $35 per each transponder. So, for example, I have 3 and my auto-replenish amount is $105.
