Hi, my court date is 8-5-09.
I am looking for a competent lawyer who reduce my misdemeanor charge of 82mph in a 65mph zone,

to Improper Driving or Defective Equipment.

I've been quoted $1500 with the need to calibrate the speedometer of a car made in 2006 with less than 30k miles on it,

versus $646 with the comment on "Don't waste your money calibrating".

Please help.
All I want is a lawyer who can get the job done and not overtly rip me off.

Default VA Reckless driving ticket/Need a good lawyer

Last week I got a reckless driving ticket (83 on 65mph) on I-81 near Wytheville, VA. This is my first traffic ticket. Can someone suggest me a good lawyer?

Wow, what a nanny state Virginia has become. Especially Northern Virginia, I'm so glad I don't live there anymore.

Here in Michigan, 80 mph is the norm on the interstate, I guess all of these drivers would be arrested if they lived in Virginia. Also, I do business in Nevada quite often, and if you were driving 80 mph on the interstate there you would get passed as if you were standing still.

It's just funny to me how different states are when it comes to motorists' rights. Best of luck to the OP in getting out of the ticket.

Not "nanny state-ism". It's all about the cash.

I hired “Hodges, Campbell” law firm. My ticket is reduced to “Defective Equipment”. I have to pay $261 fine + court fee, $300 for lawyer. I did not calibrate my car(I was using rental car).
Thank you.

i agree that VA has some harsh speeding laws, especially on 95 where it drops down to 55, which is what the normal speed is on back roads down by Chase City/South Hill/South Boston.

but regardless, speeding that fast kills, as some of my high school classmates learned the hard way and now they aren't here anymore.

I got a 85 in a 70 yesterday using a brand new rental-- is it possible to swing defective equipment do you think (10k miles)? Was yours relatively new?

Default Virginia Traffic Tickets

For matters such as this, I highly recommend E. Wayne Powell at Powell and Parrish Personal Injury, Workers Comp, Immigration, Traffic, and Criminal cases: Attorneys At Law. This happened to me driving home to New England from South Carolina. Mr. Powell efficiently and professionally handled my matter and the outcome was exactly as he suggested. The matter could not have been handled any better.
