EWR has had 4 straight 100 degree days when no one else in the entire BOS-WASH corridor has had any. Long suspected them.
BDL (Bradley Airport - Hartford) has a similar issue.
But since someone mentioned LaGuardia, their issue is even weirder. They often have the highest nighttime lows in the entire Bos-Wash corridor, but the daytime highs seems alright. Something is amiss there too, but I'm not sure what.....
Newark hit 102° yesterday. It's the only major station testing these all time records from a relatively typical heat wave.
The sensor there is very near an asphalt covered road on one side, and about 250ft from Runway 4R on the other side. Then to the east of there is I-95 with it's twelve lanes. In other words, the sensor is surrounded heavily by asphalt and concrete.
1 or 2 of those 100F maxes this week were legit, but 5 consecutive is quite suspect compared to surrounding well sited stations.
Baltimore BWI also runs hot likely because of new building and blacktop around the sensor.
The one in Florida needs to be looked at too. Improperly sited temperature sensors are a great way to artificially inflate warming data.
SDF (Louisville) has a similar ridiculous placement, and is surrounded by asphalt and concrete on all sides.
