just wondering how these two towns compare in terms of things to do, atmosphere and general feeling (safety) of the neighborhoods. We're looking at a vacation home in both towns and trying to decide. thank you!

I would do LWB - east of Dixie, preferably north of downtown. You will be able to bike and walk around more safely. It's more charming and it will be close to West Palm for restaurants. Very friendly. Lantana seems like a place you just sort of drive through, or go to the Key Lime House.

I agree with this - Lantana is far from special...one just literally drives through it to get to somewhere else. Lake Worth on the other hand is actually a decent place for the right person. I always call it's Lake Ave a grittier version of Delray's Atlantic Ave.

I’m an older millennial who’s a K-12 local of Palm Beach County and I would certainly classify it as gritty - it’s had that reputation for the longest honestly. This especially holds true if you’re comparing it to Delray’s Atlantic Ave as Delray has more of cosmopolitan, young professional/Instagram crowd who’s out and about to mingle, take selfies, and spend money.

Lake Worth Beach in contrast has what I would say a hipster, creative, and even recreational drug use crowd, but it feels more “grass roots” and less pretentious. The types of people it attracts are certainly different and I actually like both places, but for drastically different reasons…in other words, what works in one location would certainly NOT work in the other.

Check out both places - I’m certain you’ll figure out what scene works best for you within an hour or so…it certainly won’t take long to figure out.

All the best!

Thank you! I'm quite familiar with that part of Palm Beach County.

It appears the previous poster is unfamiliar with the term 'city grittiness.' The term when applied to cities in short means one will see imperfections and minimal gentrification (this also means you most likely will run into "rougher" people ) and when in a dense city setting, it may make some a bit uncomfortable, especially if all they're accustomed to is a Mayberry environment.

I've been to all those major cities and West Palm Beach has no level of consistent "grit" so no not comparable - West Palm Beach in general is like a small Miami/Lauderdale when comparing urban cores.
