We live in southern cali, born and raised... We are looking for a more conservitive lifestyle, but have been spoiled with masterplanned communities always being updated... We were wondering if the old town area is safe and fam friendly enough to live in... Im assuming it attracts more single people, which isnt bad, just wondering party level on scale of 1_10... We have a little girl... But again, cali is so crazy, I cant imagine old town wichita to be that bad... And some of those studio flats are super cute on the websites...

Old town is pretty safe at night. Maybe a little bit roughdy but not unsafe. Other parts of downtown, aren't near as safe. However you can probably walk around and be safe if you use good common sense and stay in a grouip. Old town is a very small entertainment area with not a lot of ammenities for day to day living. There really isn't a quality grocery store that you can walk to. I don't know how important that is to you. However, I think you could live there and enjoy. Will you be renting or buying? What is your budget? If you are buying the waterwalk condos are pretty nice but overpriced, IMO.

How far driving wise is the closest grocery store? And is there a farmers market on the weekends all year or only in summer?

There are two Dillons within 2 miles of Old Town, one in College Hill and the other on S. Broadway. Driving time, you're looking at 5-10 minutes.

The Old Town Farmer's Market is open from May to October on Saturdays. The Kansas Grown Farmer's Market is open on various days and has locations east, west, and in Derby.

Hope that helps!

are you considering other cities besides Wichita for a conservative vibe?....just wondering how you zero'd in on Wichita....no offense, but, coming from SoCal, it may not have all the weather, conveniences, and "action" you're hoping for and are used to....maybe that won't be a problem, though.....

Default I know its weird...

I know its wierd that we zeroed in on wichita... Our families are freaking out and making lots of wizard of oz jokes... My husband is ex military and in school for criminal justice... We know it will be a huge change of pace, but we really want better and safer community. We have parents on each coast and want something in between, what originally drew me to kansas was coffeyville, but looking into it more, we think that would be too much of a culture shock.

I love Wichita and know you've made a good decision. Will look forward to your response after you've moved. Don't know much about Old Town but it looks like a great place to live.

I live between Midtown and College Hill.
Im not sure i can say its family friendly to live there...
Downtown generally is where Wichita's homeless reside and most of the..
Social services,etc are located there.
Oldtown itself isnt really unsafe but parts of downtown are less than desirable.
I cant really say its a great area for a family, imo it would be better..
To move close to College Hill or more west to Delano.
