On the news he got a new Ford. I am not sure if the dealer gave him that car or they used the donated money. I am wondering where the rest of the money that was donated will go to?
I live in MI but am not a big news watcher. I did catch bits of this. I tend to be skeptical person and maybe it was just for the clips on TV but this man looks like he walks so slow and then add in winter weather such as the 10 inches we got the other day I just don't know.

The car was donated by the dealership. He's said that he'll use the money for insurance, gas, medical issues and will donate some to a charity. He doesnt seem like the type who will squander it.

Donations now total $300K.

From npr.org:
(...) a team of community leaders, lawyers, accountants and investment specialists to help advise Robertson on how to handle his money.

One of Robertson's new costs will be car insurance. Detroit has some of the highest insurance costs in the country. Pollack says they got quotes from insurance companies for a 2015 Ford Taurus. They come in at $933 a month.

He should move by his work in Rochester Hills and his insurance would probably be 150 a month and he would live in a safer area. I don't understand people living in Detroit paying more for auto insurance then their home and to live in an unsafe area.

Maybe he will move. He never did before because he makes only $10/hour and couldnt afford to rent/buy a place. The house in which he lives was inherited by his girlfriend.

There's a thousand panhandlers on the strip in Vegas proclaiming "Daaammnn why didn't I think of that?!?!"

I'm with the crowd that thinks it just doesn't add up or make sense. There's a lot of people that need help and are in horrible situations, people that didn't elect to throw themselves into a completely illogical situation.

I think it's sad that wages are so low that a fully employed, obviously hard working and determined worker doesn't make enough to buy a beater car over a 10-year period. Good for this guy for not giving up and just going on welfare, but if he did decide to do that -- who could really blame him? How many people would walk 21 miles a day for 10 years to earn a pittance?

So what if he's collected a lot of money? He didnt get it from the government and no one here had to pay a penny to him. I think a lot of people are just jealous that his work ethic has been rewarded.

Edited to add There are a LOT of people in horrible situations who are being helped on GoFundMe. A GoFundMe account for a 4-year-old girl received over $1.8 million. A victim of the Boston bombings received over $800,000. A mother and daughter who were both victims of the Boston bombings received almost $800,000. And an owner of a cake shop that was trashed in the Ferguson riots received $270,000.

He said he likes his home and neighborhood. If he's been there a long time, I can understand that.

You can't live in Rochester Hills, MI with a job that pays 10.50 an hour.
