I was offered an IT internship with a well known company for $18/hr, and company housing. With amazing perks. What they didn't offer was benefits of any kind. As far as I know, many internships do not offer benefits, which seems to be pretty important to almost everyone.

I know of someone that graduated with that same degree, and got an entry level position for $48k before benefits. She also lives at home, and is saving a tom of money up so that someday she may move if she chooses to.

Is your sister hot?

Horny, old men are usually willing to pay a hot, young, chick more money for eye candy at the very least if nothing else.

$70,000 straight out of school is a bit high for a SCM grad with no experience. There is something "special" going on here...

How did you come to that conclusion? What is average? You think the average starting salary for a fresh SCM grad is $70,000?

the average is that the employer decided that they wanted her to work for them.... so they pay her enough that she will. how is that not average?

I made $45K as an intern 12 years ago. I don't think pay has increased at the rate of inflation, but we pay ours pretty well. And whether $70K is a good starting salary often depends on the geographical location of the job, and the industry. I know at least here, the big SW companies pay much better than other industries for similar positions. Additionally, I live in a city with a high COL, and salaries reflect that. It would really depend on who was doing the hiring.

It matters not just job field but also where the internship is located that can greatly effect the compensation package.

I have young cousin who's a junior in college, she got an internship is a finance field asking $16,000 for the summer. However, she's living in nyc so a large chunk of that goes to rent.

When I was looking at internships ten years ago, I never found any paid ones. Granted they were in different industries: PR and Radio.

If my sister is truly making this money, I am happy for her, but also very jealous. Does this sound legit? Or a bunch of smoke?

Thanks.
My brother did EE at UT in the late 90s and made $50k salary at his coop.

I made around $20 an hour in my CPA firm internships.

It's not surprising to me at all that someone could make good money as an intern in supply chain management at a large, competitive company.
