A few fistfights on the roof, and some more in a factory. Some near-fights as well, you can smell the aggression in the air. 0 weapons usage, thankfully but I know it can happen.

When i was in the electrical trade I could tell you some stories. Used to be almost a guarantee when we were on a jobsite that had both union and non-union labor. Was just a matter of time there.

Left that trade for a more corporate job. Haven't seen office violence in my 20 years here.

This thread was started before Covid. Yes, I actually saw what was pretty close to violence back then, on two occasions. Both involved a lot of yelling and screaming, chasing across the office, but no actual physical contact. Both resulted in lawsuits eventually. Since Covid, we went almost 2 years working 100% from home, and since then have been hybrid. Most of us work in the office 2 days a week. Back then there were 400 of us here on 3 floors, today, there are 3 of us here in my part of the building, maybe 20 people in total. That means far less chance of any kind of altercation.

Soon to come is the laptop from hell. I bought it refurbished and it's degraded into a nightmare the past month or so. It's one of those extra thick rugged models that's meant to take a beating out in the field, but that's only an enticement at this point. One of the draws when I read reviews about it was that it could withstand being run over by a car...I'm gonna try it. I have many satisfying plans for this thing once its replacement arrives.
Haha been there too brother. I slammed a phone down hard enough to pop the number plate off and also kicked a few file cabinets here and there. I had a little desktop clock the co gave out, the kind that you can never set and it stay. I took it home and shot it with my .22. I considered heaving a worn out typewriter through the window but thought better of it.

^^I have some equipment I'd love to take out in a field and destroy, Office Space style, with a baseball bat. But I'm not a litterbug so will keep my annihilations indoors.

I still haven't destroyed that laptop I mentioned upthread. Soon!

many years ago I worked for a large national bank. one of the VP's was flying high on Coke and got into an argument with another VP who was sitting in his office. High VP threw a stapler and the other VP. thank god he missed him but it hit a plate glass window behind him shattering it. Glass flew all over the floor, people scattered. the police hauled high VP out of the office. we were sent home for the day and then next day - window replaced, we got breakfast and lunch brought in and we went back to work. don't know what ever happened to him...

Work place violence? Sure. I worked in law enforcement and there was plenty of violence in the workplace. Our customers were violent people and often drugged up or drunk, and no common sense to begin with.

It was pretty common to have the sheriff show up to bring a close to our dept picnics. Lots of punches being thrown.

One evening, one of our janitors showed up on horseback packing his six-shooters.

"Send Hank (the boss) out here, we have a score to settle!"

Honestly, I'm surprised idiot managers did not get 'offed', but I would recommend they leave the region for their retirement longevity. I clearly remember (2) departing employees (each with over 30 yrs service) exclaim... "I better NEVER meet up with that manager again!". They each vowed to NEVER return to our workplace, even tho it was the only branch of our credit union for 1200 miles. (Long before internet banking). Unfortunately, these were very personable and social employees who had great relationships with coworkers and credit union staff. It was just that manager who soured the entire pot. Each and everyday, being demeaning, threatening, caustic and breeding strife in the workforce. Yes, the same one who loudly and publically exclaimed each and everyday when we (2) arrived for evening shift... "Only axe murderers and alcoholics work night shift... Here come mine."

Haha, I work night shift and I am neither one, though I did drink heavily in my younger years. I rarely drink now.

Hostility to manager sounds familiar. I worked in one place where a particular manager was a butthead on steroids. He would single out people for some reason and anything that went wrong would be their fault. If they were there, they did the wrong thing. If they weren't there, they should have been. He would stop people around the plant who weren't his people and chastise them about shirt tails, etc. I was surprised he didn't get harmed or killed by someone. I wouldn't have shed any tears for him if he had. Seeds we sow?

Fistfight last year in the machine shop. Both guys were fired. One bloody lip and a black eye.

The day before Christmas Eve, for Pete's sake.

Witnessed a dude many years ago, picked up the foreman's car with a forklift and put into a dumpster. Ford Escort.

Arrested & fired. Floyd was a cool guy though. Viet Nam kinda messed him up.

Young gal having marital problems and started to date a coworker.

Soon to be ex showed up and put him in the hospital. Broken ribs, jaw, etc. Poor guy was just enjoying lunch at the picnic table with his new flame.

Beat up guy never came back to work; young gal rescinded on the divorce paperwork and remained married.

Good Times.
