Description: Founded in 1947, the symphony has won recording awards from the American music industry, plus continental Europe’s equivalent of the Grammy. Its musicians play classics, chamber, and family concerts. They also provide music for Ballet Arizona, the Arizona State University Choral Union, and the Phoenix Boys Choir, along with other performance groups. The Phoenix Symphony’s season runs September through May. Tickets range in price from $19 to $80. The symphony is generous with its time and gives occasional free concerts in the park. Some concerts are preceded by lectures discussing the music to be performed.

Description: Ballet Arizona is one of Arizona’s largest performing-arts companies. Its annual performance of The Nutcracker—performed at Symphony Hall, 75 N. 2nd St., Phoenix—draws thousands of families who might otherwise not be interested in ballet. Description: The Herberger Theater Center created the Center Dance Ensemble as its resident modern dance company. The Orpheum’s history, renovations, and events have been key in the revitalization of downtown Phoenix.
