Health Care - Phoenix, Arizona

Health Care

Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun are home to a number of nationally prominent health-care facilities, such as Barrow Neurological Institute, the Arizona Heart Institute, and the Mayo Clinic. This reflects a forward-looking attitude toward health-care innovations that the Valley has maintained since the earliest days of Maricopa Medical Center, the oldest health-care institution in the Valley, which was established in 1883.

Today all of the hospitals feature state-of-the-art equipment and the latest ideas in patient care—such as single rooms where mothers can go through labor, delivery, and recovery in relative comfort, instead of being wheeled around from the labor area to the delivery room and then to the recovery room.

Most of them also offer preventive medicine, either in the form of classes or wellness programs. In this chapter we give you a selection of Valley hospitals with some details that are valuable if you’re visiting or if you’ve just moved here.
