Description: The white-brick building that houses the Schoolhouse Children’s Museum really was a schoolhouse built in 1913 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. In both 2008 and 2009, parents in the Nickelodeon Parent’s Poll voted this the best museum in South Florida. As soon as you walk in, you’ll come upon a 15’ replica of the Jupiter Lighthouse. In this museum, you and your kids can step back in time, and see how the town of Boynton Beach and the region of South Florida grew to become what they are today. Get a ticket at the train depot, pick up some luggage, and then take a ride on the Orange Blossom Express. The kids can dress in the period costumes of the conductor or a passenger in the early 1900s. They can ring the bell, shovel coal into the steam engine, or relax in the Library Car. In the farmhouse, they can see how early settlers lived in this area. In Dairy Days, they can visit a farm and milk a cow. At the Pepper Patch Farm, they can fill trays on a conveyor belt with peppers, and then start them on their trip to market. On Old Main Street, they can see what Boynton Beach, Boca Raton, and Delray Beach looked like a hundred years ago.
