Description: Ivy Tech Community College is the nation’s largest statewide community college with single accreditation. It is the state’s largest public post-secondary institution, serving more than 130,000 students a year. Created by the Indiana General Assembly to provide “occupational training of a practical, technical, and semi-technical nature,” Ivy Tech was formerly known as Indiana Vocational Technical College. That is where the initial “I.V.” came from, giving the college its name of Ivy Tech. The college was founded in 1963 and now offers more than 150 programs statewide. Description: A private four-year institution, Marian is a Catholic and Franciscan university that grew out of the vision of Sister Theresa Hackelmeier and the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana. They established a school in Oldenburg in 1851. Founded in Oldenburg in 1936, Marian College moved to Indianapolis in 1937. On July 1, 2009, Marian College became Marian University.
