Description: In Marion County, dogs and cats must be given shots on an annual basis. Marion county code requires that dogs and cats wear a permanent means of identification at all times, either a collar with owner’s name, address, and phone number or an implanted microchip with a registered identification number. Both the Humane Society and Indianapolis Animal Care & Control can provide this service. Cats and dogs must be kept under control—leashed if off their property; otherwise restrained by fence or wall. Pet owners will be fined for violations. The Mayor’s Action Center handles animal control requests (317) 327-1397.
