Description: East Baton Rouge Parish School System has 83 schools, several pre-K centers, and 11 nationally recognized blue ribbon schools. Programs offered include adult continuing education for students age 17 and up who are not enrolled in K–12 schools, with adult review of basic math, reading, and language and preparation for GED, ACT, SAT, and school entrance exams. Additionally the system includes three charter schools, English as a second language, extended day at selected sites, magnet schools, identified exceptional students in pre-K through 12th grades, and talented K–12 students in visual arts, theater, and music. The East Baton Rouge Laboratory Academy 9–12, supported by the Institute for Student Achievement, is a college preparatory school. Programs include extended instructional weeks and extended day for instruction. Students are required to wear uniforms in all elementary schools (plain white top with a collar and navy bottoms) and in all middle schools (plain navy top with a collar and khaki bottoms). Pre-K students must be 4 years old on or before September 30 of the year entering school. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 30 of the year entering school. To register a student in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, parents need a withdrawal slip from their child’s previous school, inoculation records, the student’s Social Security number, and proof of present address.
