Spectator Sports - Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Spectator Sports

Baton Rougeans just love their sports. Spectator sports at Louisiana State University and Southern University dominate the scene. The teams, the players, and the coaches are major topics of conversation and often become national and international celebrities. Sporting events bring thousands of visitors into town, packing restaurants and hotels on game weekends. Flags in team colors fly from vehicles as avid fans head toward the games. Lavish tailgate parties for football, baseball, and basketball last two or three days. Additional sports that draw crowds include track and field, tennis, soccer, swimming, and gymnastics. Baton Rouge Community College, established in 1995, has a budding athletic program with men’s and women’s basketball and baseball. In addition to collegiate sports, Baton Rouge plays host to local, regional, and national high school and junior high events. A number of BREC park facilities serve as venues for these sports events. Families traveling with their young athletes are always welcomed, and adult fans can expect a warm reception. Tickets? Well, if it’s a big game, you’d better get that ticket well in advance.
