Description: The perfect place to stop for a snack, or more, while shopping your way down Main Street. Filling breakfast sandwiches are served on Portuguese muffins, along with bagels, yogurt, and Danish. If there are any left when you stop by, opt for the vanilla nutmeg muffin dipped in butter. They also serve a range of thick sandwiches. Enjoy your purchases at a few air-conditioned tables inside, or carry it with you. They also have a freezer section of prepared foods that might come in handy if you need to throw a dinner together on short notice: salmon puffs, lobster strudel, spanakopita, and more. Duck in for breakfast or lunch daily.

Description: Home to Chatham’s oldest raw bar, the Squire offers an eclectic menu focused on fresh fish and shellfish. In addition to the dining room, the Squire has a large pub where you can get munchies. Locals have been eating here since 1968, and the waitstaff knows just about everyone by first name. It’s open year-round for lunch and dinner.

Description: With a lively, friendly atmosphere, this restaurant is a favorite among locals. The oysters Rockefeller are a favorite as are the mussels in white wine sauce, the scallop roll, and the devils on horseback, bacon-wrapped scallops over toast points in a puddle of hollandaise sauce. The Impudent Oyster serves lunch and dinner daily year-round except for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Description: In business since 1957, this restaurant still cooks its food in an open hearth, exactly as it’s been doing since it opened. Most locals will tell you to order the native swordfish or prime rib. Legend has it that this was summer-resident Tip O’Neill’s favorite restaurant. From the cars parked outside each summer, you can tell it’s a favorite of a lot of people. Pate’s serves dinner and is open nightly from April to Jan.

Description: The Bistro features an unusual, ever-changing menu with an emphasis on local ingredients. No dish is ordinary here, where the innovative cuisine supplements native dishes with international entrees like Bangkok clay pot (a flavorful cauldron of shrimp, mussels, scallops, fish, and Asian vegetables, steeped in Thai green curry coconut sauce and served with jasmine rice and fresh pineapple). Of course there are seafood dishes like skillet-roasted, Portuguese-style Chatham scrod and pan-roasted Cape sea scallops with applewood-smoked bacon, mixed mushrooms, and caramelized red onion confit. The Bistro is open daily for dinner during the summer.

Description: The Wild Goose Tavern at the Chatham Wayside Inn serves lunch and dinner; it also serves breakfast for guests of the inn. Lunch might be crab cakes or chicken francaise, but if you’re in the mood for simpler fare, order a scallop roll, sandwich, or fish and chips. Dinner could be rack of lamb, lobster-scallop ravioli, or grilled swordfish. The restaurant is closed on Mon and Tues in the off-season.

Description: From burritos to paninis, the standout sandwiches at the Corner Store will leave you satisfied. Good burritos are hard to come by on the Cape but here you can build your perfect burrito because there are tons of choices (including 3 kinds of beans!) and just about everything—the grilled-corn salsa, the slow-roasted pork, and the pico de gallo—is handmade. Leave room for a carrot cake whoopee pie or giant Rice Krispy treat. There are a few seats, but basically this is a take-out place, ideal for the beach.

The Neapolitan-style thin crust is addictive and features fresh chopped, uncooked tomatoes and enticing combinations (the Pizza Sarah with bacon, goat cheese, and caramelized onions is a standout) along with specialty sandwiches and salads.
